water based lip balm for oxygen users
Lip care for the patient with oxygen He's 11 years of experience. I know we shouldn't use petroleum products for a patient in oxygen. In the hospital, our respiratory therapists recommended the emergence-lube. In our hospice, we use a lot of vitamin E. Is it okay to use vitamin E with oxygen? Is there anything else, besides the emergence-lube that everyone uses? June 25, 2011 I suggest KY. It's been used before with a big answer... and it's much less expensive then the articles you mentioned. He specializes in Med/Surg/Tele, Neuro, IMU. Jun 25, 2011The care of the jaw is a dick of my pet as a nurse. I would use anything available including vitamin E, subrgi-lube (which is the same as KY), some of the oral swab kits come with a lipstick that sometimes looks like the lotion. If you are working with patients with family involvement, you may find a list of items that the patient may need during your care. This list may include things like: lip balm (Hemp, etc), lotion, eye drops, dust, etc. This not only gets the patient what they need, but also allows the family to contribute at a time that often feels powerless. This is true for the hospital and the hospice. Good luck! He's 11 years of experience. 26 Jun 2011I always like the idea of including families. It bothers me when we have a patient in the patient unit and a family wants to help with their care and we take care of it. Thanks for the ideas! Therefore, if a patient is in oxygen, he/she is in/KY or lotiony water based on "lip goo" is the way to go. He specializes in Med/Surg/Tele, Neuro, IMU. Jun 26, 2011Correct. Water is the way to go. He specializes in LTC. He's seven years old. 26 Jun, 2011 The capstick bee has no basis in the oil. Jun 27, 2011Aceite de vida! He specializes in Oncology, Palliative Care. July 2, 2011I second olive oil, that's what we use. I also love Burt Bees - fabulous products! He specializes in PICU, NICU, L pestD, Public Health, Hospice. He's 31 years old. Jul 3, 2011I will also occasionally ask the family to put some olive oil in the water where they bathe their teeth. Especially when the patient is actively dying the OO can really help prevent mouth tissues from drying too much. He's 11 years of experience. I steal many ideas from this forum! :) Nov 15, 2011A repression began in my work for O2 continuous users and any oil-based product.chapstick, butt cream ect. Our solution was to refer the family member to online sites for oil-free products, such as "Alba Un-petroleum lip balm" in:o RoEzIt which is a natural skin cream that was designed with people who use oxygen in mind. This one we used. It's on the thin side, but it seems to hydrate decently. It has vitamin E. They may be on the pricy side but those few dollars are probably worth the patient! I'll have to look at Burt's bees, thank you! Specializes in Hospice / Ambula Clinic. He's 3 years old. Nov 16, 2011 I usually save a new lipbalm or two in my gear bag. I receive them free at Walgreens/Rite Aid because they often have promotions where they buy 1 lipbalm at $1.50 get $1.50 in store credit. I have a lot of my supplies this way. Looking at those in my hiding place, everyone but one is oil free. Most of it is based on wax. I didn't know about avoiding oil with oxygen patients, but I'll file it in my mental file cabinet.
