I would use anything available including vitamin E, subrgi-lube (which is the same as KY), some of the oral swab kits come with a lipstick that sometimes looks like the lotion. If you are working with patients with family involvement, you may find a list of items that the patient may need during your care. This list may include things like: lip balm (Hemp, etc), lotion, eye drops, dust, etc. This not only gets the patient what they need, but also allows the family to contribute at a time that often feels powerless.
